mg_1105Very few young artist experience a true taste of success, but 13-year-old JBYRD’s raw talent has captured the attention of listeners from various walks of life and laid the foundation for a victorious musical career.  His energy to keep up with his own quick lyks commands the spotlight and his natural, attention grabbing talent comes from a place of pure passion. JBYRD (real name Sam Freckmann) went from regular days at school to being featured on Teen Television, The Beat Philly’s Star and Buc Wild Show, Z-100 in NYC, NBC’s Atlanta Morning Show and WCBS Atlanta’s “Positively Georgia”.

JBYRD experienced great success with his Wiz Khalifa “Black & Yellow” cover, “Green and Yellow,” celebrating the Green Bay Packers’ Super Bowl XLV win.  The tribute song and video became an instant viral favorite and gained the attention of Khalifa himself in a Billboard Magazine interview.  The cover inspired the single “Go Pack Go” and had stations across the nation asking for more JBYRD.  His net-reach is undeniable as he continues to pull in audiences with his radio and television appearances.

His gift of gab has lent itself to the great success of his Super Bowl anthem “Green & Yellow” as the video quickly approaches 1 Million Hits on YouTube.  Within 8 weeks of its first appearance on the internet it became one of the most blogged and reblogged videos by new fans, hanging out on the home pages of sites like Pitchfork and Complex, 2DopeBoyz and World Star Hip Hop.  The cheesehead’s anthem turned into a national phenomenon, securing JBYRD’s song and video a deserved spot in Billboard and YouTube’s feature of Super Bowl songs.  The features appeared on the cover of the WallStreet Journal.  In this digital era, JBYRD is truly making his mark and creating a buzz.  The young artist consistently earns comments such as, “this kid is actually good” or “wow, not bad for a 13 year old.”   He is without a doubt – not only a speedy rapper – but an outstanding writer.

Representing the culture capital of hip hop, Atlantan JBYRD is a rhythm-infused lyricist who’s been writing, rhyming and performing original material since the age of 9.  He boasts a personal endorsement from Beastie Boys’ DJ Hurricane and has always credited Midwest rapper Tech N9ne and Eminem for inspiring his style and ambition.  “[Tech N9ne’s] lyrical talent had an effect on me that made me want to write songs,” says JBYRD, who nixes the pad and paper when jotting down his lines.  JBYRD punches out his rhymes on trusted technology just like Grammy nominated rapper Drake and his Blackberry.  “I never write down my lyrics on paper,” says J, “I write down all my lyrics on my iPod.”

JBYRD’s flow and performance features a vigorous rhyme scheme that pays homage to old-school hip hop forgotten by most his age.  Byrd does more than inject the current rap scene with a return-to-origin vibe.  His flow strikes notable hip hop figures like DJ Hurricane as fame worthy, and has caught the attention of reputable magazines and papers, “Cane said that as soon as he heard [me] he knew I could put it down,” says JBYRD.  Hip hop pioneer DJ Hurricane mentors JBYRD, and produced songs on his most recent album under Don’t Sleep Productions and directed JBYRD’s latest video “Brand New.”

JBYRD’s musical collaborations include son of legendary rapper Notorious B.I.G., Cee Jay, Kid Rock and guitarist Kenny Olsen who added real rock flair to 3 of JBYRD’s The Rhyme Master tracks.
